Cottenham is a large, spread-out village north of Cambridge with a wide variety of housing ages — from old farmhouses and Victorian terraces through to modern cul-de-sacs — and chimney problems across all of them.
The older parts of Cottenham around the High Street and Rook Lane include some of the most substantial older buildings in the area, with tall double stacks that served large ranges and open fires on every floor. These stacks are often in mixed condition — sound lower sections with badly decayed upper courses where moisture has got in through failed flaunching around the pots.
We take redundant or unstable stacks down to a safe, sound course and rebuild using materials matched to the original. Where a stack is no longer serving a live flue, we can include a vented capping system that protects the flue interior while keeping the stack weathertight and the roofline intact.
